The Private Pilot Licence (PPL)
The Private Pilot Licence (PPL) course is the first stage of flight training for a modular student and will lay the foundations of how to fly and navigate that are required for the rest of your flight training.
The JAR Private Pilot Licence (JAR PPL) is a European licence and is the licence to choose if you want to keep your options open for the future. At a later date you can add multi-engine, night, instrument and commercial ratings and privileges as you require. A medical certificate is required from an aviation medical examiner and is slightly more involved than that for an NPPL but achievable by the majority of prospective pilots. More information on the JAR PPL here.
Both types of Private Pilot Licence include the necessity to pass some ground examinations. You can chose to self-study for these exams but we highly recommend our groundschool which will make the process much more enjoyable!
Training for both types of PPL is carried out on our fleet of Cessna 152 aircraft which have been chosen due to their stability, simplicity and ease of flying. Skill Tests are carried out by one of our six in-house examiners so you will know your examiner before your test which hopefully will allow you to show off your skills whilst keeping test nerves to the minimum.
Confused about which PPL to choose? Don't be – our instructors are always on hand to discuss your options and, until two-thirds of the way through the course, the training requirements are the same, so you have plenty of time to decide! Also, if you do opt for the NPPL and decide at a later date that you would like a JAR-PPL instead, there are easy upgrade options.
