ATPL Theory (Not Currently Available at WAC)
There are two different types of ATPL Groundschool available on the market, residential and distance learning.
The 14 subjects are usually completed over 27 weeks (650 hours of tuition) and can be split into phases, for example:
Phase 1
- Aircraft General Knowledge
- Instrumentation
- Air Law
Phase 2
- Radio Navigation
- Flight Planning
- Aircraft Performance
- Mass and Balance
- Operational Procedures
- Human Performance
Phase 3
- Principles of Flight
- General Navigation
- Meteorology
- IFR/VFR Communications
Each phase typically lasts 7/8 weeks and is followed by JAR-FCL examinations at a CAA test centre of your choice.
The pass mark for each examination is 75% and candidates are allowed four attempts at each individual paper over six separate sittings. All 14 examinations must be successfully completed with 18 months of the first exam sitting.
IMPORTANT! Your Commercial Flight Training (CPL & IR) needs to be completed by 36 months from the end of the month in which you passed your last exam.
